my very close friend is having a baby and it has not been an easy pregnancy for her. she is such a trooper and recently had the most adorable baby shower thrown by her mom. despite all of my begging, they have decided not to figure out what they are having so i’m left in the yellow/green shopping spectrum. but, i’ve made it no secret that i am voting for a girl. (i think you are allowed to say that if it’s not your own!)
here are some goodies that baby s. will get once he/she arrives. for now, stay cookin’ kid you have a few more weeks to go.

i believe a child’s room should be bright and cheerful, and camilla’s animals makes this belief come to life. camilla, the artist… hence the name camilla’s animals, paints adorable and colorful paintings to create a fun theme for any child’s room.
i am particularly drawn to this cute little guy and think i will hang him in my office. i guess they are not just for children!
i caught up with camilla and learned a few things about her that i thought i would share with you all. i just love her story and i think her son lukas is a lucky boy to have such a talented mommy. and don’t worry camilla, i can’t live without my iphone either!
WHAT INSPIRES YOU WHEN CREATING DESIGNS FOR CAMILLA’S ANIMALS?
well, i started painting the animals when i was 8 and a half months pregnant with my son. i was nesting like crazy, we had just moved, and i was staring at the blank walls of his nursery. so i decided i would paint some colorful creatures as a gift for him. i was just planning on doing a few, but became addicted and ended up painting 9, which now surround his room. so lukas (now 16 months old) is why i was first inspired to create my animals.
aside from that, i’m inspired by simplicity. and things that are well made and original. i’m also an art director, so i love beautiful photography, typography, industrial design and fashion.
WHAT ARE A FEW THINGS THAT YOU CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT?
first and foremost, a camera. I love documenting my life and the people in it. sometimes i open iphoto and just spend an hour looking back on all the good memories with the people i love.
also my iphone! and my macbook. simple yet functional design always makes life a little easier to navigate.
life is also better with coffee, chocolate and lipgloss on my side. and boots! above the knee, with a heel, without a heel, with fur – a girl can never have too many boots!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ITEM ON MAGPIE LOVELY?
i think everything is just beautiful, but i must say the wooden clocks really caught my eye. i love the owl – so intricate, yet simple at the same time.
WHAT IS YOUR WISH FOR CAMILLA’S ANIMALS?
I think it would be really awesome to have an animal in every state. maybe that’s a funny answer, but that would just make me smile, to know that my animals had found homes in so many different places.
check out camilla’s animals!

i could not be more thrilled to introduce magpie lovely’s most recent jewelry designer, simone richmond from vancouver, british columbia. simone is extraordinarily talented and her unique designs are bold, yet playful. her jewlery is inspired by shapes and patterns found in lace and textiles. simone draws from the details she finds and infuses them into her designs. each piece is truly a labor of love, beginning with a hand drawn pattern, or a carefully manipulated texture. her work exhibits a subtle elegance through her use of simple shades, soft colors and delicate details. i am a fan for sure.
our favorite piece? this scalloped lace necklace. just perfect. ok, fine we’ll go for the matching scalloped lace earrings too!
i was able to catch up with simone and get to know her a bit. i asked her a few questions so you all could understand her creative side.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU WHEN CREATING DESIGNS FOR YOUR LINE?
i’m definitely most inspired by lace & textile patterns. i love finding interesting shapes and colours in things: origami paper, fabric, old buildings…i always try to keep my eyes open. i like to combine simple shapes with unique textures and throw in a bit of colour play with enamels.
WHAT ARE A FEW THINGS THAT YOU CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT?
oh no, this is a hard question to answer. i will try & keep it simple!
friends & family first. i wouldn’t be doing what i do without any of their love & support!
homemade granola. i start pretty much every day with that. and my mugs…i’m pretty attached to them in that almost all of them have a story to go along with them.
i definitely couldn’t live without my studio. i wouldn’t be able to create anything. and i have wonderful studio mates & neighbors!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ITEM ON MAGPIE LOVELY?there are lots of gorgeous items, but i have been coveting a
decoylab kirie clock for awhile! (it’s that lace love for me again!)
WHAT IS YOUR WISH FOR YOUR JEWELRY LINE?my wish is that it continues to grow & evolve. i hope that the delicate detailing in each piece makes the woman who wears it feel unique, incredible, and one of a kind.
thanks simone!
